Stay in Healesville

The whole house is yours…

Whether there are two or four of you (or even four of you with a bub), when you book to stay at Magnolia House, you are booking the entire property, so spread out and enjoy the whole house. Its cosy layout is ideal for two couples, featuring two good-sized bedrooms either side of the front hallway, both with fitted wardrobes and ensuites with a shower over a deep bath. Double doors from the hallway lead into a stylish open plan kitchen dining living area with a sleek inbuilt gas fire for the cooler months and bifold doors opening out to a charming brick patio and garden, gorgeous on a summer’s evening.

Once you’re here – there’s no need to drive…

Within an hour of leaving Melbourne, you can be pulling into the drive at Magnolia House!

After dropping your bags, you’re a three-minute walk (if that) to Brown Brothers’ Innocent Bystander, Healesville’s iconic award-winning cellar door and restaurant. If beer is more your style, Matilda Bay Brewery is right next door and open for beer tastings, brewery tours or just some great pub food. Across the road you’ll find Bodhi Tree, loved by the locals, it’s famed for its wood-fired pizzas – and Healesville’s vibrant Main Street is a short stroll further down the road, with its choice of pubs, restaurants shops and cafes.

Stay in an historic Healesville gem

If you share our love of history and the character that old buildings offer, you’re going to love your stay in Magnolia House, one of the few remaining century-old buildings in Healesville – built circa 1908. Magnolia House began life as Healesville’s riding school, surrounded as it was back then by paddocks and at a time of great activity, when Maroondah Reservoir dam was being constructed (worth a visit during your stay).

A cottage from yesteryear…

The lovingly restored weather board cottage now offers all modern comforts alongside charming original features.  Its wooden floorboards were stripped back and polished, the timber windows in both bedrooms have retained their original stained glass panels and the front covered verandah lends itself to whiling away a gentle evening overlooking the cottage garden, swirling a glass of wine and grazing from a cheese board, or planning your day over a freshly brewed coffee in the morning sun.

With an English country garden

From the garden, two pretty magnolias flank the front door, and a pair of ornamental topiary ficus on the porch frame the entrance.  Manchurian pears (covered in stunning blossom in Spring) complement the English style cottage garden – imagine brick garden beds full of the heady scent of roses, lavender, and riot of colourful hydrangeas, there for your enjoyment as you sit out in the warmer months beneath the table umbrella.
